Here’s What You Should Do When Your iPhone Battery Won’t Charge

If you have been in that panic mode where you need to send an important text or make a call only to notice that the battery is red and only has less than three percent available, you know how stressful it is. Now, imagine if you plugged your phone into the charger only to find out that your phone does nothing. It won’t charge at all!  Two of the first things that may cross your mind are that the battery is bad or your phone is completely dead. Well, fortunately, it may not even be as complicated as that, but, you won’t know unless you try the steps we provide you with below.  Why Won’t My iPhone Charge? There are a number of reasons why your iPhone may not be charging for you. Some of the most common ones include:
  • Your charging cable is ruined
  • You need to update software
  • Your charging port is damaged or clogged
  • You have a bad electrical outlet
Steps to Take to Fix Your iPhone Below are some steps you can take to fix the problem you are experiencing with your iPhone battery. One of these steps should work for you given the problem is not too serious.  Restart the Phone  This seems to always be one of the first recommended steps to take and for good reason too. Many times, a restart is all that is needed. You should restart the phone and then attempt to charge it again and see if the phone will take to it. Do not rush the charging process or mess with the phone once it is charging and allow it to do its job.  Do a Forced Restart  A forced restart can be used when your iPhone is unresponsive to you and you want to restart it. Here is how you can force restart the phone: iPhone 8 and newer versions:
  1. Press and release the volume up button
  2. Press and release the volume down button
  3. Press down and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo
iPhone 7 and 7+:
  1. Press and hold the volume down button and the side button simultaneously
  2. Continue until the Apple logo appears
iPhone 6 and older versions:
  1. Press and hold the home button and side button simultaneously
  2. Wait until the Apple logo appears
Test Out the Wireless Charging  If you commonly charge your phone wirelessly and you are struggling with it, you should attempt to charge it with a traditional cable and power source.  Try a New Charger or Outlet  While it seems simple enough, it could be the solution you need. Connect your approved charger to the phone after you have restarted the device and then plug it into the following:
  1. Computer
  2. Power Adaptor
  3. Power Accessory
Check for an iOS Update  An iOS update may be what is needed to get your iPhone charging once again. You will want to make sure you check to see if you are due for an update to the iOS system. If you are, make sure to complete it.  Clean Out Your Charging Port  Take a look inside your charging port and see what you can see. Is there debris or dirt clogging the port? If so, this can be an issue and prevent your phone from turning on and/or charging. You should clean out the port and then attempt to charge the phone again.  If you notice the charging port is loose, broken, or there are any other problems with it, you will need to have it replaced.  Factory Reset  When nothing else works, try a complete factory reset on the phone. It is important to note that you will lose your data when you do this, so make sure to back up the phone.  Bring Your Phone to Manhattan iPhone Repair  We offer you the most affordable iPhone repair in NYC and can get to the bottom of why your iPhone won’t charge.
