What You Need to Do If Your iPad Gets Wet

Just as you turn to try to catch your iPad before it falls, all you hear is bloop and then see the bubbles follow along with it. But, you don’t have to panic.  The experts at Manhattan iPhone Repair are here to assist you and fix your device for you. What this means is that if you have only spilled a little bit of water on it, you are likely going to be just fine. However, if your iPad has been submerged in a body of water such as a toilet, lake, or pool, you may not be as lucky and some serious damage may have occurred.  No matter what has happened, it is important to take the following steps immediately.  Take the iPad Out of the Water  The next steps and actions you take matter, and you will need to act quickly. If your iPad has been dropped into water, you will need to quickly remove it as this will minimize how much damage occurs to it.  Turn Off the Device  If your device was currently off when it dropped in the water, you do not need to take any further action there. You do NOT want to turn it back on though, as this could cause it to short circuit.  If your iPad was on when it fell in the water and it has stayed on, you need to turn it off IMMEDIATELY. If you do not, it will short-circuit and can cause serious problems with the logic board inside.  To turn off your iPad, do this:
  1. If your iPad has a home button, you should press and hold down the top button until the slider appears on the phone. Slide the slider to turn the device off
  2. If your iPad does not have a home button, you should press and hold the top button and the volume button simultaneously until the slider appears on the phone. Slide the slider to turn the device off
Dry the Device  Now it is time to dry off the device. You should take a soft, clean towel and wipe down the device to remove any water that is still on it. You want to pay special attention to any cracks and crevices and also around the home button. Dry off the buttons, charging port, and camera lenses.  You should remove the case from the iPad to ensure that you can completely dry it off. Sometimes, water can hide inside the case and while you think it is dry, it is not.  Should your iPad have a SIM card tray, you will need to remove it and dry it off along with the SIM card.  (If you find water that is hard to reach or you want to ensure you removed all water, you can lightly shake or tap the device to help water escape.) Let the iPad Dry Out  Once you have completely dried the device, you want to let it dry out on a clean towel for a minimum of 24 hours before you attempt to turn it back on. You should never use extreme heat measures to dry it such as a hair dryer.  Have Your iPad Inspected by a Repair Shop  Your iPad can become seriously damaged from water quite quickly too.
