If you did not have the phone checked by a professional, the effects of the water damage may start to slowly show up later on down the road. When these issues do finally pop up, you may be wondering if you can repair the liquid damage done by yourself or if you will need to have a professional do it for you.  Below, we will talk about how you can repair liquid damage to your iPhone and when you should call an expert to take a look.  What Does Water Damage Look Like? Water damage on your iPhone may not have a look to it at first glance. However, one of the best ways to tell if your phone has come into contact with liquid is to locate the LCIs or liquid contact indicators on your phone. You can see this from the exterior of the phone and when your phone has been in contact with liquid, it will appear red.  Repairing Liquid Damage to Your iPhone  If you are trying to fix liquid damage to your iPhone, follow the steps below.  Access Your Device  One of the first things you want to do before you make any repairs to your device is to look over the phone itself to identify areas of water damage. You want to look for moisture between the touchscreen and LCD, headphone jack, and charging port. You can also check the LCIs to see if they have turned red or if they are still white.  Disassemble the Phone  After your inspection, you can open the phone to see what type of damage has taken place under the case itself. If your phone has just been dropped in water or you just spilled water on it, make sure to dry your phone first and allow it to air dry BEFORE you open it up.   Inspect the Internal Components  Once the phone is open, you will want to inspect the different internal components of the phone. There is a water damage sticker on the back of your phone and if it is pink, it means water has been in contact with it. You want to look around the discoloration or any buildup around the different internal components such as the SIM slot, camera, LCD, digitizer, and proximity sensor. You also want to check for corrosion too.  Take the Logic Board Shield Cover Off and Clean the Logic Board  If the water damage looks like it could be serious in nature, you can take the logic board shield cover off. You want to make sure that you are careful with removing the shield as to not cause any damage to the board.  Once the shield is removed, you will need to clean the logic board. To do this, place the board into a bath of alcohol. You should allow it to soak just long enough so that any build up or corrosion comes loose. At that point, you can use a soft-bristled brush to remove the corrosion. You should focus on areas such as the chips, battery contacts, fuses, and flex ends.  Allow the board to dry completely.  Reassemble the Logic Board and Clean the LCD You can reassemble the phone and then clean the LCD. You should only clean the LCD with alcohol and use a soft cloth to do so. You do not want to place the LCD into a bath of alcohol.  Professional Liquid Damage Repairs  There are times when you want to take your iPhone to an experienced professional. Should the iPhone be very damaged from the water, experience issues with the logic board, or if you are inexperienced with the device, you should have it looked at. Logic board repairs are difficult and a wrong move can cause serious damage to the phone. Making sure all water and water damage is removed from your phone is crucial.
